MONMOUTH MUSEUM - NILSON GALLERY | MEMBERS MINIATURES: BIG ART IN SMALL PACKAGES

Monmouth Museum - Nilson Gallery: Lincroft, New Jersey

Monmouth Museum - Nilson Gallery: Lincroft, New Jersey

The Monmouth Museum exhibits a diverse collection of small works in their Members Miniature: Big Art in Small Packages, opening. All works will be on display in the Nilson Gallery until March 12, 2017.

A miniature portrait with a grand persona, “Center Stage” spotlights the authentic talent and confidence of natural performers. Poised and direct, the subject engages her audience with little more than a gaze, as she emerges through the overhead lighting to reveal her presence. Using a combination of self directed photography and observational sketches, this portrait was directly executed onto a toned sketch book page. A soft application of graphite powder provided the base structure and underdrawing for the built up of carbon and graphite pencils. Selected areas were further heightened with white charcoal.

THE LOVE AFFAIR | WORK IN PROGRESS

Translating his illustrative subject matter into a larger format works on linen, Derrick develops an underpainting for his newest still life entitled, The Love Affair.

Delving into the concept of fashionable accessory as narrative still life, this painting is intended to reflect the provocative nature of mankind through an alluring exchange of eroticism between inanimate objects.  The interplay between my objects suggests far more than a balance in dominance, as the delicate struggle for control is interwoven within subject matter emblematic of the sexes.

MONMOUTH MUSEUM | MAIN GALLERY: JURIED PORTRAIT EXHIBITION

Monmouth Museum - Main Gallery: Lincroft, New Jersey

Monmouth Museum - Main Gallery: Lincroft, New Jersey

The Monmouth Museum showcased a roster of both national and international artists, as they selected a diverse array of works for their 2015 Juried Portrait Exhibition. The main gallery hosted a truly eventful evening, as the opening reception featured a wonderful collection of mixed media fine art works, paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures.  Derrick's drawing entitled The Inner Child, features an exquisite model rendered in charcoal and poised in innocence.

This group exhibition will remain on display until November 20, 2015.
